Piggable Wye Fittings for Offshore and Subsea Pipelines

Piggable wye fittings are specialized pipeline components engineered to ensure the safe and uninterrupted passage of pigs through complex systems featuring lateral connections. M.E.G.A., established in 1962, designs and manufactures custom piggable wyes for high-stakes offshore, subsea, and onshore applications. These fittings are essential for maintaining operational integrity through regular inspection, cleaning, and maintenance.

Designed to handle extreme pressures and severe operating conditions, M.E.G.A. piggable wye fittings are fully customized to project specifications and validated through advanced Finite Element Analysis (FEA).

What is a piggable wye?

A piggable wye is a Y-shaped fitting featuring two inlets—one for each converging pipeline—and a single outlet that merges the flow. The internal geometry is precision-engineered to allow inspection and cleaning pigs to transition smoothly between lines. Typically, the two inlet lines converge at an intersecting angle of 30°, which optimizes both flow dynamics and pig movement. While pigging a straight pipeline is a standard procedure, lateral tie-in connections require specialized hardware to prevent the tool from becoming stuck.

Engineering and design capabilities

Every piggable wye produced by M.E.G.A. is engineered-to-order by qualified specialists. Our design process integrates critical pipeline data, including:

  • Pipeline dimensions.
  • Internal pressure and temperature requirements.
  • External stress and installation loads.
  • Specified corrosion allowance.

M.E.G.A. utilizes 3D modeling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to validate designs against international standards, such as:

  • ASME VIII Division 1 and Division 2.
  • ASME B31.4 and ASME B31.8.
  • DNV OS-F101 and DNV RP-112.

Additionally, we perform dynamic system simulations to determine the optimal length for In-Line Inspection (ILI) tool modules.
